This statement was made by the head of the second department of the CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexey Polishchuk, in an interview with TASS.

According to the diplomat, if Western troops appear in Ukraine, the risk of direct armed confrontation between NATO and Russia will increase many times over.

“We don’t want this kind of development. We hope that in the West, sanity and the instinct of self-preservation will ultimately prevail,” Polishchuk emphasized.

Earlier, the US State Department stated that Ukraine could join NATO only after the conflict.

Also, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the issue of increasing the supply of ammunition, drones and air defense systems to Ukraine.
