  • Interior The video recorded from the Civil Guard boat before Barbate's murder: "Shoot in the air, they are coming for us!"

The Popular Party maintains that despite the serious events that occurred in Barbate that resulted in the murder of two Civil Guards at the hands of drug traffickers, the Government continues without reacting and without taking measures to guarantee the safety of the agents. For this reason, it has registered in Congress a non-legal proposal that calls for the urgent declaration

of Campo de Gibraltar and the province of Cádiz as an Area of Special Singularity,

as well as opening an investigation to clarify political responsibilities and report it to the Chamber in a maximum period of six months.

The proposal is completed with a series of questions addressed to the Government to clarify when it plans to repair the patrol boats of the Maritime Service of the

Civil Guard

that are currently inoperative; if it intends to replace the small semi-rigid boats with others that provide greater security to agents and, ultimately, if it plans to increase the resources allocated to the fight against drug trafficking.

These questions arise after the latest attack by drug traffickers on a Civil Guard boat in

Manilva (Málaga),

which adds to the serious events in Barbate and after confirming, affirms the PP, that more than half of the fleet with which account of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard in Andalusia for the fight against drug trafficking is damaged or inoperative.

"Currently," they point out, "only nine of the 22 available boats operate and two of those nine that are active are small semi-rigid vessels that do not have the capacity to deter drug boats" of much larger size and power. This situation, they emphasize, "persists almost two months after the murder of two Civil Guards in the Port of Barbate."

The popular ones accuse the Executive of "absolute and constant passivity" in the face of the reports that warned of the need to provide more resources to the agents and urge the immediate creation of a new National Police Station in La Línea de la Concepción next to to a Prevention and Reaction Unit. Both demands, remember, have been demanded on multiple occasions by police unions and were already approved unanimously in the Congressional Interior Commission in December 2022 but, to date, they have not been carried out.

In its proposal, the Popular Group, in addition to urging the Government to declare

Campo de Gibralta

r and the entire province of

Cádiz

as a

Special

Singularity

Area with "economic and labor incentives that recognize police work", demands to update and increase the catalog of jobs of the

Civil Guard,

the

National Police

and the

Customs Surveillance Service,

reinforcing all maritime and air service units by providing them with more material and technological means, implementing more SIVE stations and putting existing ones into operation.

Also remember that the shortcomings of the agents to cope with their daily work has caused the Anti-Drug Coordinators, the unions and the associations of the different Security and Customs Surveillance Forces and Corps to have created the platform "For your safety, for everyone's", to demand measures capable of "ending the escalation of crime and reversing the situation of civic and social deterioration" that exists in the area, and reproaches the Government for having been "incapable of meeting the demands" of the agents in charge of combating drug trafficking and its criminal organizations.
