Smith stressed the need to address the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip (Reuters)

Adam Smith, the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, confirmed yesterday, Saturday, that Israel's current behavior in the war is not correct, calling for addressing the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, and for a new American approach to dealing with Israel.

He said - in an interview with the American Fox News network - that Israel has followed a very aggressive approach since the seventh of last October, indicating that this is not in its interest, and is also causing a devastating humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Smith stressed that stopping the fighting is crucial to delivering aid to the region.

For his part, the Politico website reported that Smith joined the ranks of Democrats calling for a new approach to Israel's war on the Gaza Strip, and called on Tel Aviv to change the way it manages this war.

The website added that the US representative stressed the importance of President Joe Biden's calls for a temporary ceasefire, especially in the wake of Israel's targeting of the World Central Kitchen convoy last Monday, which led to the killing of 7 people.

Smith's joining of Democrats demanding a new American approach to Israel comes after Democrat Tim Kaine rebuked the Biden administration for taking an unsuccessful approach to the war on Gaza.

Internal criticism of the Biden administration is increasing regarding its approach to Israel's war on Gaza, demanding an increase in the entry of aid and an end to the humanitarian crisis in the Strip. Democrats also criticize Israel's behavior in the war, saying that it is causing the death of innocent civilians.
