  • Monarchy The internal challenge of Felipe VI: renewing the House when everyone is over 60 and there is no retirement age

New airs for the Royal House. A month and a half after Camilo Villarino took office, at the end of April part of the Zarzuela structure will be renewed. As EL MUNDO has learned, there are

three changes

, one of them very significant and that modernize the structure of the house in line with current times.

Cavalry General

José Manuel Zuleta

leaves the Queen's Secretariat after 20 years at Doña Letizia's side. Zuleta, 63 years old, was in charge of taking on the challenge of designing his own agenda for the newly arrived Princess of Asturias. Together they chose causes such as rare diseases or mental health for the Queen to focus on. A loyal public servant, over the years he has had a relationship of total trust with Doña Letizia and leaves his position after 35 years at the service of the Institution.

In her place comes

María Dolores Ocaña Madrid,

a 51-year-old state lawyer who was currently assigned to the Ministry of Education. She is the

first woman

with a position of general director within the Royal House and the second with a position of responsibility together with

Beatriz Rodríguez,

auditor of the House. It is also the first time in the Spanish Monarchy that a woman becomes the Queen's secretary, with which Zarzuela catches up with the presence of women in management positions and Doña Letizia sends a message.

Emilio Tomé de la Vega

, 70 years old, Infantry Brigadier General, was the director of the Planning and Coordination Cabinet, his work included immediate support and collaboration in the fulfillment of assigned missions. He came to office after the proclamation of Felipe VI. Now Major General

Juan Carlos González Díez will be in charge of it.

Finally,

Isaías Peral

, a 70-year-old Transmissions colonel, who held the position of director of Administration, Infrastructure and Services, who carries out the economic-financial, budgetary and personnel management of the House, retires. In his place, another person will enter, whose appointment has not been finalized.

The

renovation

in these subdirectorates was the first of the challenges that Villarino faced, since the structure of the House has hardly changed in the last ten years and the team is more than 60 years old. Felipe VI sanctioned Royal Decree 297/2022 of April 26, which entrusted the Head of the House with the powers to assign functions to the personnel integrated into the Secretariat, the Military Room, and the Royal Guard.
