Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Al-Ansari said that the Israeli Minister of Economy is attacking the mediators instead of supporting efforts to reach an agreement.

Al-Ansari described Israeli Economy Minister Nir Barkat as "another politician in Israel who seeks to appear by attacking Qatar to enhance his political future."

The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman added that spreading lies about Qatar, “which helped release the hostages, is a sign of political recklessness and selfishness.”

Earlier Thursday, the Israeli minister - a member of the ruling Likud Party led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - said that he did not trust Qatar to play the role of mediator with the Hamas movement.

The State of Qatar played a major role in mediating the talks between Israel and Hamas since the outbreak of the aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, and was able to release a number of detainees held by the movement in the Gaza Strip.

The mediation of Qatar, Egypt and the United States, which is currently ongoing, seeks to reach a prisoner exchange deal and a second truce between Israel and Hamas, after the first truce that lasted a week at the end of last year and resulted in a prisoner exchange and the entry of limited aid into the Strip.
