Ivory Coast: Guillaume Soro claims to have spoken on the phone with Alassane Ouattara
Guillaume Soro and his entourage claimed, Thursday April 4, that the former Ivorian Prime Minister would have telephoned President Alassane Ouattara twice. A “
telephone episode
” which puts an end to five years of silence between the two men, while Guillaume Soro lives in exile, after being sentenced to life in prison for “endangering state security”.

On the government side, we are suggesting that this is a non-event. Other members of the presidential majority affirm that if
Guillaume Soro
“
wants peace, he will find President Ouattara on his way to accompany him
”.
Even if we try, on the presidential side, not to give too much importance to these conversations, it remains a significant point in the life of two politicians who collaborated so much before getting angry.
Not so long ago, in 2020, Guillaume Soro described
Alassane Ouattara
as a “
dictator
”, particularly the day after his conviction in court and more recently, in 2024,
in Burkina Faso
, he stigmatized an “
allegedly democratic”
Ivorian government. » who, according to him, refused to recognize his rights.
For his part, when asked about his former Prime Minister, President Ouattara was affected to see the man who was his best ally against Laurent Gbagbo become a simple litigant nine years later.

Today therefore, the time seems to be for appeasement and for dialogue, by telephone in any case. On the occasion of Muslim Ramadan and Christian Lent, the former Prime Minister would have apologized to the head of state, who would have felt “
hurt
” by certain political positions of the past. Guillaume Soro would also have thanked the president for pardoning close collaborators, who were also convicted.
In return, the Ivorian president inquired about the health of Guillaume Soro, and the two interlocutors reportedly raised questions about the former head of government's passports.
