Around six months after the start of the war, Doctors Without Borders condemns the Israeli government for attacks on the health system in the Gaza Strip and attacks on aid workers.

"No health system in the world can handle the scale and type of injuries we face every day," said Amber Alayyan, a representative of the aid organization. She accuses Israel of the “systematic and deliberate destruction” of the health system in the Gaza Strip.

Alayyan reports on patients with bruises on the abdomen and chest, amputations and severe burns. Some operations had to be carried out on the floor and wounds began to rot. Most injuries are the result of air strikes. “We are now also seeing children with gunshot wounds from armed drones,” says Alayyan.

MSF chief: Almost 200 humanitarian workers killed since war began

According to MSF Secretary General Christopher Lockyear, almost 200 aid organization employees have been killed in the war between Israel and the radical Islamic Hamas, including five employees of Doctors Without Borders. Lockyear said attacks on humanitarian workers showed "either complete intent or reckless incompetence."

Most recently, seven employees of the US aid organization World Central Kitchen were killed in an Israeli airstrike on their convoy on Monday.

The war in the Gaza Strip was triggered by Hamas's unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7th, in which, according to Israeli figures, around 1,170 people were killed and around 250 others were kidnapped as hostages in the Gaza Strip.

Since then, Israel has taken massive military action in the Gaza Strip. According to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, which cannot be independently verified, more than 33,000 people have been killed so far, including more than 13,800 children.
