WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging applications for smart devices (European)

DownDetector, a website that tracks electronic disruptions, reported that the accounts of thousands of users of the WhatsApp application, owned by Meta Platforms, were disrupted on Wednesday, even as the messaging application was resumed on smartphones for some.

DownDetector tracks crashes by collecting status reports from a number of sources, including user reports across its platform.

“We know that some people are facing problems right now, and we are working to get things back to 100% normal for everyone as quickly as possible,” WhatsApp said in a post on the X social media platform.

Down Detector data showed that the outage affected more than 24,000 WhatsApp users in the United States at its peak.

Down Detector added that about 3,200 people had problems with Instagram in the United States.

Instagram users reported more than 5,000 outages.

Last month, the service was cut off for hundreds of thousands of users of the Facebook and Instagram applications of Meta Platforms worldwide for more than two hours due to a technical problem.

The company has about 3.19 billion daily active users across its suite of applications, which also includes the Threads application.
