Putin on the goals of those who ordered the terrorist attack at Crocus

Vladimir Putin, during a meeting of the XII Congress of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia, said that, according to the investigation into the terrorist attack in Crocus, the main goal of those who ordered the attack was to damage the unity of Russians.

The President stressed that there could be no other goals, since Russia cannot be the target of terrorist attacks by Islamic fundamentalists.

“We have a country that demonstrates a unique example of interfaith harmony and unity, interreligious unity, interethnic. And in the external arena it behaves in such a way that it can hardly be an object of attack from Islamic fundamentalists,” Putin said.

At the same time, he noted that the goal of undermining the unity of Russian society, especially in modern conditions, “is certainly visible.”

Earlier on the same day, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke about the terrorist attack. During a round table on the situation in Ukraine, the minister noted that the preliminary conclusions of the investigation indicate a Ukrainian trace in this crime.

“This terrorist attack, as you know, is being actively investigated by the Investigative Committee, the Prosecutor General’s Office and other competent authorities. It is already obvious that there was a Ukrainian trace,” Lavrov said.

The minister noted that Ukraine’s involvement in many other terrorist acts on Russian territory “is no longer in doubt.”
