  • Peru President Boluarte, cornered by the Rolex scandal

There is no scandal that can, at least for the moment, with the Peruvian president,

Dina Boluarte.

This Thursday, Congress rejected two vacancy motions, the Peruvian

impeachment

, against the president for the Rolex scandal, which caused the raid and search of her private home and the Presidential Palace.

Both Perú Libre, a Marxist-Leninist party that triumphed in the 2022 presidential elections with the ticket formed by the coup leader

Pedro Castillo

and Boluarte herself, and Democratic Change-Together, failed in their efforts. Both proposals fell far short of the objective, since only 33 and 32 deputies respectively voted in favor, when the minimum necessary to advance the process was 45. The 87 necessary to remove Boluarte are much further away.

The allied official bloc, made up of the Fujimorists of Fuerza Popular, the rightists of Renovación Popular and Avanza País and the center-right Alliance for Progress, stood firm against the leftists and centrists, but not even the parliamentary group of the Magisterial Bloc, a split of PL teachers close to Castillo, opted to seek the removal of the president.

This is the

fifth failure to launch the Creole impeachment against Baluarte

. In 2023, the motions presented for the fifty deaths due to the repression of protests and controversial trips abroad did not reach the necessary seats either.

"The de facto Congress-Executive pact to remain in power is ratified. Yesterday with the vote of confidence, today with the shielding of Dina Boluarte. Neither of the two motions was admitted to debate, despite the seriousness of the events that today The Prosecutor's Office is investigating," complained Congresswoman

Sigrid Bazán,

who presented the second motion.

The new prime minister,

Gustavo Adrianzén,

who replaced the resigned Alberto Otárola dragged by another scandal that mixed relationships with several women and influence peddling, yesterday surpassed the vote of confidence of the same Congress.

The

unpopularity rates

of the president, her government and Parliament range between 90% and 85%.

This Friday, Boluarte is expected to go to the Prosecutor's Office to give a statement about the alleged crime of

illicit enrichment,

an investigation prompted by journalistic publications that revealed the collection of 14 high-end watches, including at least three Rolexes, a Cartier bracelet and other jewelry. of the president, valued at around half a million dollars.
