“Today, the total military budgets of the alliance member countries exceed 52% of the global total, which is about $1 trillion 200 billion at least,” he noted.

At the same time, Grushko clarified that the contribution of the European allies is $450 billion, which is seven to eight times more than Russia’s military budget.

In addition, he said that the US global military presence costs a lot of money: they have approximately 600-700 facilities scattered around the world. Thus, Washington achieves dominance in “all potential theaters of military operations.”

“And if we isolate the share of funds that they spend on the defense of Europe, it, of course, will not be $800 billion - this is approximately the total amount of American military appropriations - but significantly less,” noted the Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to Grushko, if militaristic circles finally come to power in the United States and increase the military budget to $1 trillion, against this background “the share of Europeans will be significantly smaller.”

“All this is being done for only one thing - to ensure that more American weapons are purchased,” he clarified.

Currently, NATO, which was founded on April 4, 1949, includes 32 countries.
