“The fact is that the Russian threat exists only in the minds of Americans, in the minds of Western Europeans. And precisely those who, today, base their policy on the external contour on confrontation with Russia,” he said.

The diplomat recalled that, according to the experience of the Cold War, a hostile policy that is superimposed on unfriendly military planning is a very explosive mixture that will constantly generate confrontation and lead to an arms race.

“The truth is that sooner or later Western elites will have to report to their society why and where this money went... And in order to look more or less believable to the average person, they will say: yes, we did it for so that Russia would not attack us, and if we had not done this, it would have attacked us. This, of course, is the paradox of the current situation,” he added.

At the same time, according to Grushko, the paradox is that the artificial line of demonizing Russia is an indispensable condition for the survival of NATO itself.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that the United States does not shy away from anything to instill Russophobia.

He also noted that the United States is aggravating the situation in Ukraine by refusing to listen to Russia’s demands.
