More than 70% of the estimated costs of damage resulting from the destruction of homes in the Gaza Strip (Reuters)

The World Bank estimated the cost of damage to vital infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, which is exposed to a devastating Israeli war, at approximately $18.5 billion in the period between last October and January.

This was stated in a joint report by the World Bank and the United Nations issued on Tuesday and prepared with financial support from the European Union.

The World Bank noted in its non-final assessment of the damages that the figure represents 97% of the combined economic output of the West Bank and Gaza for the year 2022.

He stated that structural damage was caused to “all sectors of the economy,” and that more than 70% of the estimated costs resulted from the destruction of homes.

The report concluded that the share of the cost of damage to public service infrastructure such as water, health, and education is estimated at 19%, and the share of commercial and industrial buildings is 9%.
