The new President of Senegal Bassirou Diomaye Faye appointed Ousmane Sonko, the key figure in his election, as Prime Minister on Tuesday April 2 in the evening, a few hours after his inauguration following his victory in the presidential election on March 24, according to a decree read on public television (RTS).

“Mr Ousmane Sonko is appointed Prime Minister”, indicates this decree read by the Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic Oumar Samba Bâ. “I measure the importance of the trust that he (President Faye) has placed in my person,” declared on RTS Ousmane Sonko who had proposed the candidacy of Bassirou Diomaye Faye after the invalidation of his own.
