in the capital and its surrounding areas. Shooting was reported in several places in the country, including the neighborhoods of Delmas in the suburbs of Port-au-Prince.
Early Monday afternoon, clashes broke out between agents of the Haitian national police, armed forces and armed bandits at the Champ de Mars where the presidential palace is located. Heavy weapon fire
On the same day, bandits occupied the Haitian State University Hospital, the largest hospital in the country, for hours. Before leaving, they vandalized the administrative offices, reports the hospital's executive director, Dr. Jude Milcé. The hospital is forced to delay its reopening, because it will be necessary to secure the building first, explains the doctor.
Armed bandits attacked the Petit Séminaire Collège St-Martial where they set fire to buildings and several vehicles. They also tried to set fire to the National Library of Haiti. The situation was still tense on Tuesday in downtown Port-au-Prince where heavy weapon fire rang out for a good part of the day.
