China News Service, Beijing, April 3 (Reporter Chen Su) On the morning of the 3rd, the Central Meteorological Observatory issued an orange warning for severe convective weather. The weather station has issued severe convective weather warnings for five consecutive days. According to monitoring by the meteorological department, severe convective weather occurred earlier and more frequently in China this year.

Since March 31, strong convective weather has occurred in Jiangxi, Hunan, Fujian, Guangdong and other places, with local winds reaching level 11 or above. Among them, Nanchang encountered extreme thunderstorms and strong winds, resulting in 4 deaths and more than 10 injuries. On April 1, the Central Meteorological Observatory issued the first yellow warning for severe convective weather this year. It was upgraded to an orange warning for severe convective weather at 18:00 on April 2. It continued to issue an orange warning for severe convective weather in the morning of April 3.

Talking about why the sustained and extreme severe convective weather occurs, Sheng Jie, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory, said that when the air temperature at the lower level is higher and the air temperature at the upper level is lower, the hot air below is like boiling hot water. When cold air comes in and triggers conditions, strong convection will occur. From March to April, spring heats up quickly and the temperature is higher in the afternoon. At the same time, the lower atmosphere is warming due to the continued warming of the southerly warm and humid air flow. Recently, warm pools have appeared in Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and other places. When cooling occurs at mid-high altitudes, colder air superimposes on warm and humid air, creating a high-energy area and forming better thermal conditions, which will trigger strong convection.

"When the cold air is strong and moves quickly, the severe convective weather process ends quickly. When the cold air is weak, because the cold and warm air are evenly matched, there will be a longer-term confrontation, providing conditions for the formation of strong convective weather." Sheng Jie said.

The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that during the Tomb Sweeping Day holiday (4th to 6th), there will still be heavy rainfall and strong convective weather in the south.

Sheng Jie said that "it rains heavily during the Qingming Festival" mainly refers to the frontal rain in the Yangtze River Basin. In addition, Guangdong, Guangxi and other places have a higher probability of thunderstorms during the Qingming Festival. From April 2 to April 4, as the cold air moves southward, strong convective weather advances southward. Due to good convective conditions, the possibility of wind hail increases. We need to pay attention to wind hail disasters in Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian and other places. From April 6 to 8, strong convective weather continued to advance southward, affecting northern and central South China and other places.

Meteorological experts said that it is currently the peak travel period, and the public needs to pay attention to early warning forecasts, plan trips in advance and pay attention to safety. (over)
