Biden faces internal American anger over his handling of the war on Gaza (European)

In the presidential primary elections in Wisconsin, the movement opposing US President Joe Biden’s position on the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip received 8.5% of voters who voted “non-committed.”

The campaign was able to win the support of more than 46,000 votes, surpassing Democratic candidate Dean Phillips, who ended his election campaign and supported Biden.

On the other hand, Biden was able to win the state of Wisconsin, after winning 88% of voters in the state, which is one of the most prominent swing states that the president will need to win in order to secure a second term.

The number of voters who voted "not committed" more than doubled in Wisconsin, compared to 2020, sending a warning message about the president's chances of being re-elected in the state.

Wisconsin was not the only state in which Democrats opposed to the Gaza war registered their dissatisfaction with the president in the primary elections, as the states of Minnesota, North Carolina, Michigan, Massachusetts, and other states witnessed similar votes against Biden.

About two weeks ago, the American network NBC reported from an informed source that Biden became angry and began screaming and cursing after he was informed during a private meeting at the White House at the end of last January of the decline in his opinion poll results in the states of Michigan and Georgia, because of his position. From the war on the Gaza Strip.

Biden won the last presidential election by a slight margin over Trump in those two states.

A political nightmare for Biden

Sources also told Al Jazeera that a Ramadan iftar held by the US President at the White House, yesterday, Tuesday, for Arab and Muslim Americans, including doctors returning from Gaza, witnessed the withdrawal of a number of attendees in protest against Washington’s support for the Israeli war.

The sources reported that Doctor Thaer Ahmed, who returned from the Gaza Strip, told Biden that he could not stay on this occasion while people were being killed in Gaza, before the US President and his Vice President, Kamala Harris, delivered a message from the displaced child in Rafah, Hadeel Al-Najjar, who lost her family.

In this context, British writer and legal expert in media and publishing issues, Hugh Tomlinson, said that the war in Gaza is quickly turning into a “political nightmare for Biden” that may cost him his position in the White House, due to his support for Israel in its war on Gaza.

The writer pointed out in an article in the British newspaper The Times - published about 3 weeks ago - that thousands of American voters put the “non-committed” sign on the ballot papers in the primary elections within their parties, as an expression of their anger at the president’s refusal to demand a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

The United States is the largest supporter of Israel in its war on the Gaza Strip, which has been ongoing for about 6 months, as it established an air and sea bridge to supply it with thousands of tons of weapons and ammunition.

However, the US administration called on Israel to refrain from invading Rafah, until a plan is drawn up to evacuate civilians, who were displaced to the city from various parts of the Gaza Strip to escape the war, and their number is estimated at about 1.4 million people.
