The Syrian Network for Human Rights said that it documented at least 203 cases of arbitrary detention, including 8 children and 5 women, in March 2024 in different regions, noting that the Syrian regime continues to violate the decision of the International Court of Justice.

The network explained, in a report issued today, Tuesday, that the continuation of arbitrary arrests has caused a rise in the disappearance of huge numbers of Syrian citizens, which has become a phenomenon, making Syria among the worst countries in the world for hiding its citizens.

The report reviewed the distribution of cases of arbitrary arrest and detention by governorate, and data analysis showed that the highest number of cases of arbitrary arrest was for Aleppo Governorate, followed by Deir ez-Zor, followed by Damascus Countryside, then Damascus, then Homs, then Raqqa, then Daraa and Al-Hasakah.

The report stated that the Syrian regime forces carried out extensive arrest operations, targeting civilians in the governorates of Rif Damascus, Damascus, Hama, Aleppo, and Homs, under the pretext of failing to complete compulsory and reserve military service, and most of them occurred within the framework of mass raids and arrest campaigns and at checkpoints, and among them were people who had their security situations settled in Areas that previously signed settlement agreements with the Syrian regime.

On the other hand, the report recorded that the Syrian Democratic Forces continued their policy of arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance, through mass raids and detention campaigns targeting civilians, under the pretext of fighting ISIS cells. Some of these campaigns were supported by helicopters belonging to the International Coalition Forces.

According to the report, last month witnessed detention operations carried out by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham against civilians, concentrated in Idlib Governorate and some areas in the countryside of Aleppo Governorate under its control, and included media activists, politicians and local notables, most of which were against the backdrop of expressing their opinions criticizing the policy of the Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham administration. to its areas of control.

Syria is living in a political crisis that began in March 2011, when popular demonstrations took place against the rule of President Bashar al-Assad, and the authorities met with repression, leading to the outbreak of a conflict that left tens of thousands dead and millions displaced and refugees inside and outside the country, before the conflict expanded with the entry of external countries and parties.
