An “XXL square net” operation, intended to fight against drug trafficking, took place this Tuesday morning in the Reynerie district of Toulouse. A system also triggered in Strasbourg and Nantes. In the pink city, residents say they are relieved, but also know that traffic will resume once the police leave.

Two weeks after an "XXL net square" operation against drug trafficking in Marseille, the system was renewed this Tuesday in Strasbourg, Nantes and Toulouse. In the pink city, residents of the Reynerie district, plagued by drug trafficking, unanimously welcome this increased police presence.

But if this "clearance" operation reassures them, they are nevertheless reluctant to express themselves, for fear of reprisals. “I don’t want to be bothered because I’m talking to you, that’s the problem. Already the fact that you’re here, talking to me, I’m sure people will come and see me,” confided this resident to Europe 1. Indeed, in this district, traffic provides a livelihood for hundreds of families.

A large sum of money discovered in an apartment

Early this Tuesday morning, a “nanny apartment”, according to the established expression which designates accommodation where drugs are stored, was searched. Inside, in addition to the narcotics, a large sum of money, the amount of which is not yet known, was discovered. This significant loot does not surprise Sophie, impressed by the almost military organization of these lookouts at the bottom of the buildings whose job is to watch when the police are on patrol.

“There is the morning team and the evening team. They are up all day doing nothing. We see, but we say nothing,” testifies this mother. Overall, the residents are relieved after this “clean up” operation but not fooled. Because from Wednesday, the lookouts will undoubtedly resume their activity.
