The US Central Command (Centcom) announced - on Sunday evening - the destruction of two drones belonging to the Houthi group in Yemen on Saturday.

A statement issued by Centcom on the “X” platform stated that its forces succeeded in intercepting and destroying two unmanned aerial vehicles in areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen, at exactly 08:30 on Saturday morning, Sana’a time.

The statement also indicated that one of the two drones was destroyed over the Red Sea, while the other was destroyed on the ground while preparing for launch.

Centcom confirmed that these unmanned aerial systems pose a threat to American forces, coalition forces, and commercial ships in the region.

Centcom stressed that it is taking these measures to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters protected and safer for the US Navy and commercial ships.

There was no immediate comment from the Houthis regarding Centcom's statement.

In solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which is facing a devastating Israeli war with American support, the Houthis targeted, with missiles and drones, Israeli cargo ships or those linked to them in the Red Sea, stressing their determination to continue their operations until the end of the war on the Strip.

Since the beginning of this year, the Washington-led coalition has launched raids that it says target Houthi sites in various regions of Yemen, in response to their attacks in the Red Sea, which was met with a response from the group from time to time.

With the intervention of Washington and London and the tensions taking a noticeable escalation last January, the Houthi group announced that it now considered all American and British ships among its military targets.
