“Replacing winter tires with summer tires is not as critical as the reverse process. The fact is that winter tires have a soft compound, which provides better traction on cold asphalt, and if we only have +2...+3 °C, then such asphalt is also cold. For the same reason, soft tires wear out more in warm weather. Accelerated wear is the main argument for a timely transition to summer tires,” explained RT’s interlocutor.

He emphasized that if winter tires also have studs, then they are definitely not worth driving in the summer.

“Wear, noise, studs falling out - what good is that? Moreover, on some models with developed studs, I noted rather poor grip properties on dry asphalt,” the expert added.

However, he says there are two things to keep in mind.

“Firstly, although infrequently, ice also occurs at above-zero temperatures. It happens both on bridges and simply in wind-blown areas. Secondly, the weather may suddenly change, for example, it may snow heavily. And on snow, summer tires have a braking distance that is many times longer than winter tires,” Pilipishin concluded.

Previously, Moscow motorists were advised to change their winter tires to summer ones.
