Russian diplomacy on Monday condemned the “unacceptable” attack against the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, accusing the Israeli army of being responsible.

“We call on Israeli leaders to stop provocative acts of armed violence”

“On the evening of April 1, the Israeli Air Force struck the Iranian consulate building in Damascus,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. “We strongly condemn this unacceptable attack against the Iranian consular mission in Syria,” he added, assuring that any attack against a diplomatic building was “unacceptable”.

“We call on the Israeli leadership to stop provocative acts of armed violence against the territory of Syria and neighboring countries,” the ministry concluded, warning of “extremely dangerous consequences” for the region.

This raid attributed to Israel targeted the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus on Monday, killing seven among Iran's Revolutionary Guards, in a tense regional context against a backdrop of war in the Gaza Strip. Iran has promised to retaliate.
