A 14-year-old Spanish teenager died this Monday after falling "several dozen meters" during a mountain excursion in the

French Pyrenees,

firefighters and a mayor of the area reported.

The teenager suffered a "fatal fall" while hiking with her father on the

Séguitte plateau,

an area of

Arette

located at about 1,000 meters above sea level, the department's firefighters explained.

According to

Pierre Casabonne,

the mayor of this commune,

the victim "slipped"

in a "very accident-prone area" and fell "several tens of meters."

"The path leads to the plateau without difficulty, but then it is surrounded by ravines. The father probably didn't realize how dangerous the place was. It's horrible," he said.

The young woman's body

was found by firefighters

and a unit of the high mountain gendarmerie brigade, after the father notified them of the fall.

The

City Council

indicated that the victim's family, originally from Spain, was on vacation in the area for the Easter weekend

.

The mother "had stayed at the rural house," she added.
