Reporters learned from the Aviation Industry Corporation of China on March 31 that China's independently developed "Xiangyun" AS700 civilian manned airship took off from Zhanghe Airport in Jingmen, Hubei Province, and landed smoothly at Jingzhou Shashi Airport after a flight of 1 hour and 46 minutes. , returned to Jingmen after a short rest and completed the first transition flight.

"This transition flight went very smoothly as planned. Judging from the flight conditions, the airship has good maneuverability." Lin Hong, the pilot of the AS700 manned airship that flew this transition mission, said that the AS700 manned airship uses vector control technology , has the ability to take off and land vertically in small spaces. At the same time, it is more maneuverable and flexible than other types of airships, which will greatly save operating costs.

The "Xiangyun" AS700 manned airship adopts a conventional single capsule layout, a streamlined airbag shape, and a single-point single-pillar non-retractable landing gear. The maximum take-off weight is 4,150 kilograms, the maximum range is 700 kilometers, the maximum flight time is 10 hours, the maximum flight speed is 100 kilometers per hour, and the maximum number of passengers can be 10.

Zhou Lei, chief designer of the AS700 manned airship project, said that the flight completed all scheduled tasks and fully verified the AS700 manned airship's flight communications, facility loading and off-site takeoff and landing capabilities. At the same time, it also further tested the technical team's capabilities. The transition support capability lays the foundation for subsequent longer-distance and longer-duration flights.

In December 2023, the "Xiangyun" AS700 civil manned airship officially obtained the type certificate issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China. It is China's first independently developed in accordance with airworthiness specifications, has completely independent intellectual property rights, and is the first to obtain a type certificate.
