Demonstrations in support of Gaza in the Jordanian capital, Amman (Reuters)

#Jordan_Flood, #Jordan_Red_Line, and two opposite names that top the trend list in Jordan, so what is their story?

The story began when activists in Jordan a few days ago launched the hashtag #Jordan_Flood, after the Al-Aqsa Flood operation launched by the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas movement, on October 7, in which they called for demonstrations and protests in front of the Israeli embassy in Amman in support of Gaza and denouncing the Israeli massacres. Right to the people of the Strip.

Yesterday, Saturday, the protests entered their seventh day, but this time Jordanian security forces intervened and forcefully broke up the demonstrations and marches in support of Gaza, and arrested hundreds of male and female activists.

Activists circulated many clips of demonstrators gathering in the vicinity of the Israeli embassy and Jordanian security arresting protesters on the grounds of vandalizing public property. With the spread of the arrest clips, a state of controversy began in the Jordanian street, which was reflected on social media platforms between those who condemned the arrest of some demonstrators and those who supported the matter.

The Jordanian Youth Support to Support the Resistance said, “Arrests among young people and persecutions to break up the activities of the siege of the Zionist enemy’s embassy... The Jordanian people go out in the activities of the siege of the enemy’s embassy in defense of Palestine and to protect Jordan... Whoever decides to export vegetables and pass the land bridge through our Jordanian lands must be arrested.”

Followers commented that the Jordanian movement revived the Arab street, which is a great honor that every Jordanian can be proud of, and that questioning the movement is a free service to Israel, and it is not honorable or chivalrous to attack the nation’s noblest leaders of the resistance, while they are facing the fiercest enemy, according to what one of them said.

For whose benefit is Jordan's image damaged?

Demonstrations have taken place across all countries of the world, denouncing this genocide that is taking place in Gaza. The demonstrators (in capitals that support the entity with weapons) closed streets and stood in the way of ships transporting weapons to the occupation... So why is the state upset by a few hundred or thousands gathering near an embassy...

Bloggers said that the Jordanian regime can transform the energy of popular anger into an opportunity for political investment in a way that serves the Palestinian cause, which constitutes a vital depth to its national security, and it is the custodian of the holy sites in Jerusalem.

Jordan is not a neutral party, but rather it is being targeted. Slogans and chants by the masses supporting the resistance are the normal thing. They either cheer for the resistance, or chant against it. One of them commented.

A video clip showing security forces dragging a girl participating in the demonstrations also angered social media users, and they demanded the dismissal of the Minister of Interior.

The scene of the girl being dragged and arrested is the least an interior minister can say about it.

Others wondered, for whose benefit is Jordan's image being damaged? Especially since the demonstrations took place across all countries of the world denouncing this genocide taking place in Gaza, and that the demonstrators (in capitals that support Israel with weapons) closed streets and stood in the way of ships transporting weapons to the occupation... So why is the state upset by a few hundred or thousands gathering near the occupation embassy? .

On the other hand, using the hashtag #Jordan_Red_Line, someone answered this question by saying that the “demonstration” compass has deviated... and it is the state’s duty to intervene, and that demonstrating in the street is a legitimate right for all Jordanians, and solidarity with our people in Gaza is a national duty that expresses the public conscience, It reflects the position of the state and all its administration.

He added that the compass of the sit-ins and demonstrations should have been directed towards one heading, which is stopping the war, condemning the aggression, and supporting the steadfastness of the people in Gaza, but it deviated towards other headings, whose goal is clear and exposed, which is to transform the Gaza file in our country from a political file to a security file, according to the opinion of one of them. .

The "demonstration" compass has deviated... the state's duty is to intervene

Hussein Al-Rawashdeh

It is true, demonstrating in the street is a legitimate right for all Jordanians, and solidarity with our people in Gaza is a national duty that expresses the public conscience and reflects the position of the state in all its departments. Jordan, since its founding 100 years ago, has carried the Arab inspiration, and has risen to defend…

Tweeters saw that there was no benefit from the demonstrations except sabotage and stabbing the security forces, and that there were many ways to support the people of Gaza. Instead of songs, chants, and the time they wasted in the street, they were collecting donations for the people of Gaza.

When demonstrations go out of context and lead to riots, burning, and tampering with private and public property, here we know that those demonstrations have become demonstrations of sedition, so we must strike with an iron hand, pursue them, and prevent these demonstrations in order to preserve security and societal peace.

One of them responded to this opinion by saying that the time they spend in the street is not wasted, and that the people of Gaza must be supported by all means, and demonstrations are one of these ways.

And the time you spend in the streets is not wasted 👍🏻

And if you see that, then it is your own problem.

As for the time that is wasted on the day of the national team’s celebrations, the royal wedding, and any national holiday, it is not considered time, right? 😂😂😂

If supplication is the only solution, then why did the Messenger keep fighting, struggling, and settling everything?

Activists circulated a video clip of a group of doctors participating in the siege of the Israeli embassy in Amman, chanting, “From Amman, greetings to Muhammad Abu Salamiya. From Amman, greetings... to the medical personnel.”

The Public Security Directorate in Jordan published a blog post on its account on the X platform in which it said

“Scenes of riots that were controlled by the gendarmerie forces in the Baqaa camp last night, including setting fires to property, blocking roads, and attempts to attack security personnel and throwing stones and bottles at them.” The directorate attached the post to a video clip showing the outbreak of fire in one of the neighborhoods in the Baqaa camp.

The Jordanian Youth Gathering in Support of the Resistance wrote a blog post in which it asked, “Why are we besieging the embassy of the Zionist enemy?”

He responded by saying, "With our action, we want to influence the course of the aggression against Gaza in order to alleviate the suffering of Gaza, and because the continuation of the war increases the threat to our homeland, Jordan, with the danger of displacement... This is what moves us. These are our demands for our action in besieging the embassy of the Zionist enemy."

The gathering called for a new demonstration today, Sunday, at 10 pm, in support of Gaza.
