The police said that the raid “is for the purpose of search and confiscation” (French)

On Saturday, Peruvian police raided the home of President Dina Boluarte as part of an investigation into suspicions of corruption linked to undeclared luxury watches.

About 40 officers participated in the raid - according to a police document - searching for Rolex watches that were not declared by Bolwarti, and the police said that the raid “is for the purpose of search and confiscation.”

Earlier this month, the authorities launched an investigation into Bolwarti following a press report that stated that she wears luxury watches from an unknown source that were not disclosed in official records.

The local television channel "Latina" broadcast the raid, which was carried out today, Saturday, in a joint operation between the police and the Public Prosecutor's Office, at the request of the Public Prosecution.

Bolwarti stressed her innocence, and said last week: “I entered the government palace with clean hands and I will leave it with clean hands” (French)

The crisis emerged in Peru after the “La Encinerona” platform reported in mid-March that Bolluarte had placed a number of Rolex watches during official occasions.

The platform drew attention to the watches through images dating back to December 2022, when Bolwarti took power.

The government comptroller later announced that he would review Bolorarte's financial disclosure statements from the past two years to look for any possible irregularities.

In turn, Bolwarti (61 years old) stressed her innocence, and said last week: “I entered the government palace with clean hands and I will leave it with clean hands.”

In response to questions about how she can afford such expensive hours based on the government salary she receives, she said that it is the result of her hard work since she was 18 years old.

The lawyer and former Vice President became the first woman to assume the presidency in Peru after her leftist predecessor, Pedro Castillo, tried to dissolve Congress and rule based on decrees, only to be quickly overthrown and arrested.

This was followed by violent protests demanding Bolwarti's resignation and new elections, which were met with a security crackdown that resulted in the deaths of about 50 people.
