On the 30th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that experts from both Japan and China held consultations in China regarding the release of treated water from Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the ocean. This is the first time that the talks have been announced publicly, and the Japanese side has explained the safety of the release based on scientific evidence.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks were held in Dalian, northeastern China, and were attended by officials from related ministries and agencies and TEPCO from the Japanese side, and by officials from multiple research institutions from the Chinese side.

The talks were held after the Japan-China summit meeting held in November last year, in which they agreed to find a solution to the issue through consultation and dialogue regarding the plan to release treated water, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. This is my first time.

During the consultations, opinions were exchanged from a technical perspective, and the Japanese side discussed monitoring methods and the fact that the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) is involved in efforts to ensure high safety and transparency. This means that the explanation is based on scientific evidence.

The government will continue to hold consultations with experts and request the lifting of China's suspension of imports of Japanese marine products.
