“

I don’t want to scare anyone, but war is no longer a concept of the past

.” The warning is clear from the Polish Prime Minister,

Donald Tusk

. At the edge of the conflict with Ukraine, Warsaw fears having to face a hypothetical Russian invasion after that of its neighbor.

For

Poland

, the Russian threat is becoming more and more palpable every day. Earlier this week, a Russian missile crossed Polish airspace for 39 seconds before crashing in

Ukraine

. And on Thursday,

a major counter-espionage operation

was carried out in the capital to dismantle a network of Russian influence.

But Poland is especially worried about Europe's capacity to react in the event of war. Thus, in this interview, Mr. Tusk urges Europe to become aware of the situation. “

I know it seems devastating, especially for the younger generations, but we have to mentally get used to the arrival of a new era

,” he said, referring to a “

pre-war era

.” And added: “

I’m not exaggerating. This is becoming more and more evident every day

.”

He calls for even more investment in military spending, particularly for equipment or ammunition, which Poland has been doing since Russia invaded Ukraine. It also spends nearly 4% of its GDP on defense to have a large army capable of reacting.

Donald Tusk hopes that Europe will take the necessary measures without waiting for the US presidential election, which could see Donald Trump return to power and weaken NATO defenses.
