  • Politics The EU will urgently process two petitions to protect guards and police with the vote against the socialists and their partners

  • Interview "It is bloody that local police are a risky profession and the Civil Guard is not"

The Popular Party will bring to the next plenary session of the

Senate

a motion in which it demands that the Government of Pedro Sánchez declare the work of the

National Police

and the

Civil Guard

as a risky profession , a historic demand of the

State Security Forces and Bodies

that has returned to the front line of public debate in recent weeks following the murder of two civil guards who were fighting against drug trafficking in the port of

Barbate (Cádiz)

, or the death of two other agents hit by a truck while carrying out a control in

Los Palacios (Seville)

.

Those of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who have an absolute majority in the Upper House, urge the Government in their motion, to which this newspaper has had access, "to make the pertinent legal modifications" so that the agents of the National Police and of the Civil Guard "enjoy the consideration of a risk profession" for the work they carry out.

Similarly, the

popular

parliamentary group in the Senate, led by

Alicia García

, asks the Executive in the same letter "to support in

Europe

the necessary measures so that all police forces are considered" as risky professions.

The demand of the security forces is preceded by a notable imbalance compared to other professions, as reported by the PP in line with the claims of the civil guard and police platforms: "Workers included in the mining statute, flight personnel in aerial work, railway workers, artists, bullfighting professionals, firefighters, members of the ertzaintza, regional police in

Navarra

and mossos in

Catalonia

, and local police," lists the main opposition party to highlight the inequality suffered by the Civil Guard and the National Police.

A "differentiation" that the PP disfigures the Minister of the Interior,

Fernando Grande-Marlaska

, and that has repercussions, for example, with regard to the retirement pension, as the

popular

ones denounce : "The retirements of the National Police and Guard Civil currently can be requested with thirty years of service and sixty years of age (with the corresponding loss of purchasing power), in the same way as the rest of civil servants belonging to passive classes. Local police and regional police (who do have the risk profession recognized) can request retirement at age fifty-nine, without loss of purchasing power.

This is not the only consequence of the fact that agents of the Civil Guard and the National Police are not considered risky professions: the PP points out that "they are penalized as if they were considered a risky profession, for example, "when it comes to taking out life insurance, where they have to pay 40% more on said policy for exercising police functions, even though they are not recognized as a risky profession by the State." For this reason, the document registered this Wednesday in the Senate insists, "it is justice and common sense to amend this injustice with our State Security Forces and Corps."

The popular

initiative

, which will be debated in the next plenary session, convened for Tuesday, comes just a month after the

Interior Commission

of the

Congress of Deputies

already approved a motion presented by the PP in which it urged this recognition , and that went ahead thanks to the votes, in addition to the PP, of

Vox

and

UPN

. Furthermore, in recent weeks both the PP and Vox have presented various proposals in regional parliaments and city councils demanding this modification.
