The

judicial bodies of the Community of Madrid

registered more than one million cases for the first time last year, 1,023,755, 4% more than in 2022, with 971,115 cases resolved, which is 2.1% less year-on-year, according to the 2023 report on the Situation of the Judicial Bodies. In 2022, there were 982,536 processes, complaints and investigations carried out in the courts of the region, with 949,857 cases decided. Despite the people problems, judicial efficiency is very high compared to the population and the number of companies in the Community of Madrid generating an enormous workload.

The statistics, published by the General Council of the Judiciary (

CGPJ

), reflect that as of December 31, 2023, 606,366 cases were still pending, 13.2% more than a year before when there were 534,961.

Throughout Spain, judicial bodies recorded an increase in

litigation

of 4.8% last year compared to 2022, with the Canary Islands and Andalusia as the autonomous communities with a higher rate.

According to the report, the number of new cases only decreased in the

Contentious-Administrative

order , while in the Civil, Criminal and Social jurisdictions it increased by 6.4%, 3.9% and 5.4%, respectively.

CGPJ statistics show that in the Madrid region the number of procedures decreased only in the Contentious-Administrative order, while in the Civil, Criminal and Social jurisdictions it increased by 3.8%, 6.3% and 7. 8%, respectively.

In the

Civil order

, the Madrid judicial bodies registered 482,201 matters in 2023, which is equivalent to an increase of 3.8% compared to 2022. In this jurisdiction, 448,117 matters were resolved, 3.9% less than in 2022, and were 402,211 in process, 11.3% more.

In the

Criminal

jurisdiction , 433,685 cases were filed, with a year-on-year increase of 6.3 percent; 428,450 matters were resolved, 4.4% more than in 2022, and 115,572 matters were pending, which represents an increase of 16.9% compared to the previous year.

In the Contentious-Administrative jurisdiction, the entry of 37,086 new cases represented a year-on-year decrease of 19.6%. And the number of resolved matters was reduced by 15.6%, which totaled 35,463. At the end of the period, 40,210 cases were pending, 7.6% more in year-on-year terms.

The entry of 70,783 new matters in the

Social jurisdiction

represented an increase of 7.8% compared to 2022. The number of resolved matters stood at 59,085, 12.5% ​​less than the previous year, and the number of matters in process at 50,373, 27% more.

The data published this Monday show that the Community of Madrid (149) was the

fifth region

with a litigation rate higher than the national rate -145.7 matters per 1,000 inhabitants-, behind the Canary Islands (188.7), Andalusia (156 .8), Catalonia (154.2) and the Balearic Islands (150.6). The autonomous communities with the lowest litigation rate were the Basque Country (103.2), La Rioja (103.9) and Navarra (115.7), the statistics say.
