The parliamentarian said this on the air of the Public Television of Armenia.
According to Simonyan, Armenia is the bearer of the European democratic system.
“For us, obtaining candidate status for EU membership is the most correct and desirable option that we should follow,” Interfax quotes him as saying.
He added that Armenia had always followed the path of joining the EU until “it was pulled into another system.”
In early March, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said that the authorities were actively discussing the idea of the country joining the EU.
The head of diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, said that the EU and Armenia intend to begin a dialogue on visa liberalization.
