The National Police has arrested
a 65-year-old man in Palma who had downloaded nearly 2.2 million pedophile photographs and videos
, which he also shared with other users.
As reported this Friday by the National Police Headquarters in the Balearic Islands, the man was detected during 'cyber patrolling' tasks on the networks by the
Technological Crimes and Economic Crime Group
.
The agents confirmed several connections of the suspect, who
would have shared at least 15,000 files from July 2023 to the beginning of 2024
. After identifying the user, with a court order a search was carried out at his home, where
the man resided with his mother
.
There, the agents seized a laptop that had installed the program used to download and distribute pedophile material. They also seized
an external hard drive with 1.7 terabytes of pedophile material
, organized in 33,000 folders by categories with about 2.2 photographs and videos.
During the search, the man collaborated with the agents by spontaneously confessing the facts, although he stated that
he thought that the consumption of this type of pornography was not a crime
.
For all this, he was arrested for an alleged crime of corruption of minors.
