According to our CSA survey for Europe 1, CNews and Le Journal du Dimanche, if we ask the French to what extent they fear a new attack in France, on a scale of 0 to 10, 0 corresponding to a very weak fear and 10 corresponding to a very high fear, the cursor must be placed on 7/10.

Maximum vigilance. A few months before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the attack on Crocus City Hall in the suburbs of Moscow last Friday pushed the government to raise the Vigipirate plan to "emergency attack", its maximum level. A decision which preceded an announcement from the Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, affirming that two attack plans have been foiled in France since the start of 2024. A situation which generates certain fear among the French, according to our CSA survey for Europe 1, CNews and

Le Journal du Dimanche

A more marked fear on the right

To the question, "on a scale of 0 to 10, 0 corresponding to a very low fear and 10 to a very high fear, to what extent do you fear a new attack in France in the weeks or months to come?" the panel places the cursor on 7/10. A result which varies by a maximum of 2.1 points depending on the political orientations of the respondents. Thus, if left-wing sympathizers place the cursor on 6.4/10, voters from France Insoumise are the most confident about future security with 5.8/10. The Socialist Party scores 6.3/10 and Europe Ecology – The Greens scores 6.6/10.

The slope of fear continues to increase as we move towards the right of the political spectrum: supporters of the majority have a fear of a new attack at 7.4/10. Then, on the right, the Republicans are at 7.7/10 and the National Rally at 7.8/10.

A gap between men and women

In terms of age, gender or even profession, the level of fear is, however, more compact, and the cursor varies by less than one point at most. It is also those aged 35-49 who are the least afraid, since they are at 6.6/10, on the contrary, it is those aged 65 and over who are the most worried with 7.2/10. Also note a gap between men (6.7/10) and women (7.3/10). As for the socio-professional category, whether it is high, low, or whether the respondents are inactive, the level of fear is the same, at 7/10.

* Self-administered online panel questionnaire carried out on March 26 and 27, 2024.
