"We have one family in Taiwan and one in the mainland, so it is easier to communicate and coordinate cross-strait legal affairs." Zhang Jiadong, a Taiwanese who is working as a lawyer in Longwen District, Zhangzhou, Fujian, said in a recent interview with a reporter from China News Service that his son and daughter-in-law are both here I am a lawyer in Taiwan, and I have returned to my ancestral home, Zhangzhou, to practice law for more than ten years. Although I am now in my seventies, I still want to use my remaining energy to provide useful experience and practices for cross-strait lawyer exchanges and cooperation.

Zhang Jiadong is 70 years old this year, but he is still energetic and has clear thinking. More than a year ago, he switched jobs to Beijing Yingke (Zhangzhou) Law Firm and became the oldest lawyer in the company. He also served as a member of Yingke Taiwan's Hong Kong, Macao and Overseas Chinese Legal Committee.

"In 1988, I obtained a lawyer's practicing certificate in mainland China." Zhang Jiadong said that during his stay in Taiwan, he stayed in many law firms and legal service companies in Taipei and Taoyuan to assist with related work.

"In recent years, the mainland's legal construction and services have made great progress." Zhang Jiadong, who has been traveling between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait to handle cases for a long time, said he was deeply touched by this.

Fujian is the main ancestral home of Taiwanese compatriots and an area with intensive investment by Taiwanese businessmen. The integrated development of various industries on both sides of the Taiwan Strait is increasingly deepening. Zhang Jiadong has noticed that in recent years, cross-strait legal services such as economic disputes, marriage, inheritance, agency recognition and enforcement of cross-strait effective judgments, and joint ventures have increased year by year.

Zhang Jiadong said that he learned from the Fujian Lawyers Association that there are currently 29 Taiwanese resident lawyers in Fujian. Zhang Jiadong believes that based on the in-depth cross-strait economic, trade and personnel exchanges and the vast mainland market, this data still has a lot of room for growth. With the same historical and cultural background and the same spoken and written language, it is easier for Taiwanese lawyers to conduct business in the mainland.

How to make it easier for more young Taiwanese lawyers to come to the mainland to conduct business and realize their personal value?

Zhang Jiadong believes that last year the "Opinions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council on Supporting Fujian in Exploring a New Road for Cross-Strait Integrated Development and Building a Cross-Strait Integrated Development Demonstration Zone" were issued. Relevant functional departments still need to release more business areas for Taiwanese lawyers to practice in the mainland; more specific Measures to ensure their integration into the mainland legal profession; carry out cross-strait lawyer alliance exchanges and studies to promote the integrated development of the Fujian and Taiwan legal professions.

As Chinese enterprises are deeply integrated into the economic development of the country under the Belt and Road Initiative, their international influence is increasing day by day. In Zhang Jiadong's view, lawyers from both sides of the Taiwan Strait can join forces in the future to provide high-quality legal services for Chinese companies to develop overseas.

Having been engaged in Taiwan-related legal services for a long time, Zhang Jiadong believes that behind every successful case is the recognition of his professional value. "There was a financial loan contract dispute case involving cross-strait. I took advantage of my family and career to go to Taiwan to apply for recognition and enforcement and was successful. The legitimate rights and interests of the parties were effectively protected." Zhang Jiadong said that this case was the first time that the Xiamen Arbitration Commission's award was awarded in Taiwan. The case recognized by the judicial body is also one of the top ten typical cases involving foreign countries, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan by the Xiamen Arbitration Commission.

"I hope to use what I have learned and practical experience to promote cross-Strait legal exchanges and cooperation and provide useful experience for young lawyers on both sides of the Strait." Zhang Jiadong said that this is his original intention and his way of life, "live until you are old and learn until you are old." (over)
