If, at the beginning of the year, the debate in the Catalan leadership of

Podemos

was whether or not to go into an electoral coalition with

Catalunya en Comú

(the party led by

Ada Colau

) to reissue the

En Comú Podem

formula , the advance of the regional elections has changed the turns and the

purple ones

have activated the handbrake.

Podem Catalunya

will not appear in the elections on

May 12 , according to what

El Periódico

reported this afternoon

.

"Faced with a moment of uncertainty and political instability in Catalonia, we choose not to collaborate in the fragmentation of the left, since that only benefits the right and the extreme right. Therefore, exercising responsibility towards the Catalan citizens, we have decided not present ourselves," the party justifies its decision in a statement.

Since the creation of

Sumar

, a year ago, the alliance of Podem and Catalunya en Comú has experienced a progressive deterioration. The En Comú Podem coalition was born in 2015 and, in the general elections in December of that year and the repetition in June 2016, it was the most supported force in Catalonia with percentages of 25% of the votes.
