Ibrahim Jaber Ibrahim, a member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council in Sudan and Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Army, visited the city of Omdurman during his inspection tour of the affected states after a year of battles.

Ibrahim said - in a video clip obtained by Al Jazeera Net - that one of the main goals of the visit is to restore electricity to Omdurman.

He spoke about continuing economic activities in Sudan during the clashes, reassuring the Sudanese people that food stocks of wheat and corn are abundant.

He also thanked the State of Qatar for its supportive and effective role in delivering aid to Sudan and the affected states via the air bridge.

The Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Army confirmed that the government has nothing to do with aid and does not receive it, but rather works to facilitate its entry procedures, while national organizations and agencies distribute aid shipments, in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army, led by the head of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), have been waging battles that have left about 13,900 people dead and about 8.5 million displaced and refugees, according to United Nations data.
