For the fourth consecutive year, it will have a temporary pedestrianization device to enjoy Holy Week. The Consistory will implement a plan that guarantees mobility for pedestrians around the most iconic and popular parishes on these religious dates.

The Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility Area will enable seven pedestrian zones, six in the Centro district and one more in Salamanca, between tomorrow,

Holy

Thursday

, and

Easter

Sunday

. The operation will involve 22 street closures between 11:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., but will not affect the main arteries of the capital during the processions.

The measure seeks to facilitate pedestrians with comfortable transit around the most visited temples: the Cathedral Church of the Armed Forces (Church of the Sacrament), the Pontifical Basilica of San Miguel, the Royal Church of San Andrés Apóstol, the Church of San Pedro el Viejo, the Collegiate Church of San Isidro, the Church of San Ildefonso, that of the Santísimo Cristo de la Fe, the Basilica of Jesús de Medinaceli and the Chapel of the Divine Captive of the Piarist Fathers. This year, in addition, a new pedestrian area will be enabled around the parish of San Lorenzo.

The City Council will enable an extraordinary device of

600 members

of the Mobility Agents Corps, who will join the ordinary staff to be able to carry out these pedestrianizations during the four holidays. They will be in charge of controlling and directing traffic. In addition, an information patrol will carry out its functions on foot along the most frequented streets to indicate to citizens which are the most recommended routes, the closest available parking spaces, as well as any other information related to mobility.

All these services will be coordinated with the Municipal Police, responsible for all those traffic cuts that, despite not being initially planned, may be necessary due to possible crowding on sidewalks and roadways due to Easter events. Main streets such as Atocha, Paseo del Prado, Fuencarral, Bailén or Mayor, in this edition where Puerta del Sol will be the epicenter, will be affected.
