Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council in Sudan, Shams al-Din Kabbashi, Vice President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said that the Rapid Support Forces are at their worst while the army is on standby “to liberate civilians and all regions and villages of the island.”

During his visit to the eastern military region in Gedaref State, Kabbashi said that the armed forces are in good condition and that “the army and the people are together as one man to defeat the rebellion” of the Rapid Support Forces.

While addressing the officers, non-commissioned officers and soldiers of the Eastern Region, he added, “The knights of the Eastern Military Region are on standby to liberate Madani and all the regions and villages of the island.”

He indicated that his visit to them was “to inspect and complete the final arrangements for resolving the battle of the city of Wad Madani,” the capital of Al-Jazira State, and all regions of Sudan, and he considered that the current battle is “a battle for the dignity of an entire people.”

Referring to the Rapid Support Forces, Deputy Al-Burhan said that “the rebels are at their worst,” and asked the officers not to believe “their claims and lies about the establishment of a civil administration in Jazira State,” considering that the Rapid Support aims to “raise the collapsed morale of their rebel forces.” .

Omdurman

Ibrahim Jaber Ibrahim, a member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council in Sudan and Al-Burhan’s assistant, visited the city of Omdurman yesterday, Tuesday, during his inspection tour of the affected states after a year of battles.

Ibrahim said - in a video clip obtained by Al Jazeera Net - that one of the main goals of the visit is to restore electricity to Omdurman.

He spoke about continuing economic activities in Sudan during the clashes, reassuring the Sudanese people that food stocks of wheat and corn are abundant.

Artillery

Military sources told Al Jazeera yesterday, Tuesday, that the Sudanese army bombed targets belonging to the Rapid Support Forces with heavy artillery in the Kadro area, north of Khartoum.

The sources added that 9 combat vehicles belonging to the Rapid Support were destroyed in the Kadro military area.

This development comes in light of the continuing intermittent clashes between the two parties in several areas in Greater Khartoum.

During this month, the Sudanese army was able to control all of the old neighborhoods of Omdurman after a major battle that enabled it to extend its control over the radio and television buildings.

Armistice negotiations

The United States special envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, expressed his hope on Tuesday that the two parties to the conflict in Sudan would resume dialogue after Ramadan and work to prevent the outbreak of a broader regional war, despite the failure of previous negotiations.

The former congressman, who was recently appointed as an envoy to Sudan after a tour that included 7 countries, said that the talks, which Saudi Arabia will participate in leading, may begin around April 18.

He told reporters after his return to Washington: “Anyone who thought that the way was paved for either party to achieve a clear victory must realize very clearly at this stage that the situation is not so.”

He added, "The war of attrition...not only represents a disaster for civilians, but it could easily spark more divisions and become a regional war."

Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army led by Al-Burhan and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces led by Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti) have been fighting battles that have left about 13,900 dead and about 8.5 million displaced and refugees, according to United Nations data. The war also pushed the poverty-stricken country to the brink of famine.
