The Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported that 7 soldiers and one civilian were killed as a result of what it said was a US air strike targeting Deir ez-Zor Governorate in eastern Syria, while Tehran announced the killing of an Iranian Revolutionary Guard member in the same attack.

On Tuesday, SANA quoted a military source as saying, “The American occupation forces launched an aggression today at dawn with military aircraft and drones, targeting a number of towns, villages, and military sites in Deir ez-Zor Governorate and its countryside.”

He added that the attack resulted in "seven military martyrs and one civilian, 19 military personnel and 13 civilians injured, and significant material losses to public and private property."

At the same time, the Iranian embassy in Damascus announced, via a post on the X platform, the killing of a member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The official Iranian News Agency (IRNA) held Israel responsible for the attack that led to the death of this member, indicating that his name was Behrouz Vahidi, without revealing his rank.

As for the Iranian Mehr News Agency, it said that the American army was the one that carried out the air strike on Deir ez-Zor that led to the death of Wahidi.

The strikes targeted towns and military sites in Deir ez-Zor and its countryside, according to SANA (Al Jazeera)

American denial

The US military did not announce any raids on Syria last night or at dawn today.

Agence France-Presse quoted a US military official as saying that Washington “did not launch any air strikes on Monday night.”

For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that night air strikes on Deir ez-Zor led to the killing of at least 14 pro-Iranian fighters and one civilian.

The Observatory explained that “a communications official in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, two of his companions, 9 Iraqi fighters belonging to pro-Iranian groups, and Syrian fighters were killed in the strikes,” which also killed a “Syrian civil engineer.”

The Observatory added that among the fighters, “10 were killed as a result of air strikes carried out by unidentified warplanes that targeted a building in the city of Deir ez-Zor used as a communications headquarters,” noting that the Syrian owner of the residential building was also killed in the strikes.

The United States had previously announced the targeting of more than one military point belonging to Iranian-backed factions, in addition to Syrian regime sites in Deir ez-Zor.

The region is witnessing mutual attacks between American forces and Iranian-backed factions on the western bank of the Euphrates River, which prompted the American army to strengthen its bases with air defense systems.
