China News Service, Beijing, March 26 (Xie Yanbing) Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian hosted a regular press conference on March 26.

A reporter asked: According to reports, on March 25, the United Nations Security Council passed Resolution 2728, proposed by Algeria and other countries, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. China and 14 other Security Council members agreed, while the United States abstained. This is the first time since the outbreak of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that the Security Council has passed a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire. What is China's comment?

Lin Jian: China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations has fully elaborated on China’s position in his explanatory speech after the Security Council vote. The current conflict in Gaza is still protracted, causing a serious humanitarian crisis. Security Council Resolution 2728 clearly calls for an immediate ceasefire, expansion of humanitarian assistance in Gaza, and lifting of restrictions on large-scale humanitarian assistance. This is in line with the correct direction of the Security Council's actions and responds to the general expectations of the international community. China welcomes this.

Security Council resolutions are binding. We require the parties concerned to fulfill their obligations under the United Nations Charter and take due actions in accordance with the requirements of the resolutions. We expect countries with important influence to play a positive role in the parties involved, including taking all effective means to support the implementation of the resolution. The Security Council should continue to pay close attention to the situation in Gaza, prepare for further necessary actions, and ensure that the resolution is implemented in a timely and full manner. China will continue to work with all parties to make unremitting efforts to quell the war in Gaza at an early date, ease the humanitarian situation, and promote the implementation of the "two-state solution."
