According to a study carried out for Nextories, a price comparator for the moving sector, changing accommodation in Paris during the Olympic Games period could become a headache. Professionals in the sector are already anticipating a drop in their activity.

If you plan to move to Paris or on the contrary move to leave the capital during the Olympic Games, you will need to be patient. Unless postponing your departure or arrival is ultimately the best solution. In any case, this is what emerges from a study, spotted by BFMTV, and carried out on behalf of Nextories, a price comparator for the moving sector.

This consultation, carried out with a network of 260 professional moving companies and the results of which are based on the responses of 96 Parisian companies, reveals to us the extent to which the Olympic fortnight is feared by professionals in the sector. Thus, 60% of them plan to refuse contracts, even though the summer period corresponds to an intensification of their activity. And too bad for the shortfall.

90% of them mention a “lack of information”

Jumbled together, these companies evoke “the restrictions and complexities of traffic, parking and administrative procedures envisaged for the Olympic Games”. On average, they fear a 50% drop in their turnover between July 26 and August 11.

If some will choose, according to the study, to extend their working hours, others will opt for a much more radical solution, namely deserting the capital during the Olympics. 90% of them also regret a “lack of information from the government” regarding “parking and traffic” issues. According to the outlines of the security system, unveiled last November by Laurent Nuñez, Paris police prefect, several local residents will for example have to provide, in a dedicated application, proof of address in order to return home in certain areas.

Difficulties which add to the real estate crisis

“This situation raises concerns about the fluidity of operations and the capacity of small and medium-sized moving companies (VSEs and SMEs) to carry out their moves in optimal conditions,” we can read in this study. In an interview with AFP, Laurent Nuñez assured, at the start of the year, that moves would be possible "when they cannot be postponed". A qualification that is too vague, denounce the main stakeholders.

These various constraints, linked to the Olympic Games, also add to the real estate crisis. Faced with a congested market and a plummeting number of transactions in recent years, the activity of movers is sometimes reduced to nothing.
