"We have many old friends in South Pacific, and now we have a new friend like you. I am very happy." On March 25, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People with Nauru, who was on a state visit to China. President Adieng said cordially during the meeting.

During the meeting, President Xi expressed his clear attitude in three sentences, injecting confidence and strength into the development of China-Nauia relations.

—— "Friendship is in no particular order. As long as it is started, there will be a bright future."

On September 21, 2019, China established diplomatic relations with the Pacific island country Solomon Islands. Eighteen days later, when President Xi Jinping met with Solomon Islands Prime Minister Sogavare for the first time in Beijing, he said this to Sogavare: "Friendship is in no particular order. As long as it is started, there will be a bright future."

During this meeting with the President of Nauru, which is also a Pacific island country, President Xi once again said: "This sentence still applies."

On January 24, 2024, China and Nauru signed a joint communique on the resumption of diplomatic relations, and the two countries resumed diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level. Since then, China-Nauda relations have opened a new page.

On March 25, 2024, President Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony for President Adiang of Nauru in the North Hall of the Great Hall of the People.

China and Nauru are both developing countries and are faced with the common tasks of developing the economy, improving people's livelihood and realizing modernization. China and Nauru are both members of the "Global South" and share a common will to defend their sovereignty and independence, safeguard the common interests of developing countries, and promote an equal and orderly world multipolarization and inclusive economic globalization. All these have brought the two countries closer and closer.

During the meeting, Nauruan President Adion said: "Nauru has recently established diplomatic relations with China. We support and respect the one-China principle. This is also an important prerequisite for our contact."

"Friendship has no priority." The two-way journey across the Pacific to resume diplomatic relations between China and Nauru has once again made it clear to the world that adhering to the one-China principle is a correct choice that conforms to international justice and conforms to the trend of the times. It is the aspiration of the people and the general trend.

——“No matter how big or small the cooperation is, as long as it is sincere, there will be fruitful results.”

On many diplomatic occasions, President Xi Jinping has emphasized the word "sincerity." He uses "sincere friends" and "sincere partners" to define countries that have friendly relations with China. He regards "sincerity and friendship" as one of the essential characteristics of China-Africa relations.

The most important thing about the friendship between countries is sincerity, and the most important thing about the friendship between people is sincerity.

Take the “Belt and Road” initiative as an example. Over the past decade, with the joint efforts of all parties, the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” has evolved from a Chinese initiative to international practice, from concept to action, from vision to reality, and achieved tangible and The numerous achievements have created "national landmarks", "people's livelihood projects" and "cooperation monuments" one after another. One of the most important reasons is China's sincere and pragmatic cooperation with the co-building countries.

During this meeting, President Xi expressed his willingness to expand practical cooperation with Nauru in trade, investment, infrastructure construction and other fields, and to provide assistance without political strings attached to help Nauru achieve independent and sustainable development.

After the talks, under the witness of President Xi and President Adiang, China and Namibia signed a number of bilateral cooperation documents in the fields of jointly building the "Belt and Road", implementing global development initiatives, economic development, agriculture and other fields.

"No matter how big or small the cooperation is," the door to cooperation between China and Nauru has been opened. Adhering to the word "sincerity", we will surely reap fruitful results.

——“Treating others equally is a distinctive character of China’s diplomacy.”

Countries, big or small, strong or weak, rich or poor, are all equal members of the international community. When the United Nations was founded, the principle of sovereign equality was included in the United Nations Charter as the first of the seven principles that the United Nations and its member states should abide by.

China is the largest developing country in the world, and Nauru is a small island developing country in the Pacific. The development of China-Nauia relations and China's relations with Pacific island countries can be said to be a vivid example of China's practice of equality for all countries, big or small.

The Chinese people's character of respect, equality and friendship is reflected in all aspects of China's relations with island countries.

On July 3, 2023, acupuncture doctors from the Chinese medical team assisting the Solomon Islands treated patients at the National Referral Hospital in Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands.

In critical moments such as large-scale riots in the Solomon Islands, the most powerful volcanic eruption in Tonga this century that triggered a tsunami, and the island countries struggling to cope with the COVID-19 epidemic, China has come to the rescue. China also helps island countries build roads and bridges, grow vegetables, and raise poultry, adding fuel to the development of island countries and improving the lives of local people.

China does not attach political conditions to its assistance to island countries, does not seek exclusive rights, does not impose itself on others, does not write "blank checks", and fully respects the wishes and needs of island countries.

Whether they are old friends or new friends, treating each other as equals and communicating with each other with sincerity have always been the distinctive characteristics of China's diplomacy.

When meeting with new friends, President Xi Jinping used these three sentences to lay a good foundation for enhancing political mutual trust between China and Namibia. The leaders of the two countries have jointly sown "seeds of hope" and also look forward to harvesting a "win-win future."
