British justice grants Julian Assange the right to appeal his extradition to the United States

The High Court in London handed down its decision on Tuesday, March 26, regarding Julian Assange's request to be able to appeal his extradition to the United States. The founder of WikiLeaks can challenge his extradition to the United States, says British justice.

The High Court in London announced on Tuesday that Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks, will be able to appeal his extradition to the United States. This extradition was accepted by the British government in 2022.

The Court ordered a new hearing to be held in May to assess the United States' commitments. The country will have to offer “ 

satisfactory guarantees 

” that Julian Assange will be able to plead the First Amendment and that he will not risk being sentenced to death.

This decision was eagerly awaited by supporters of the founder of WikiLeaks. Julian Assange faces 175 years in prison in the United States for leaking more than 700,000 confidential documents on American military and diplomatic activities. This was the final national legal avenue still open to Julian Assange to avoid this extradition.
