The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia announced the prevention of a terrorist attack in the Samara region.

As the department's Public Relations Center (PRC) stated, the terrorist attack was planned by a citizen of the Russian Federation born in 1994, an accomplice of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDC) organization, operating under the patronage of the Ukrainian special services. As the FSB clarified, in the period from 2022 to 2024, the person involved was publicly engaged in discrediting the RF Armed Forces.

In September 2023, through the mediation of another RDK activist, he was recruited by the Ukrainian special services. According to the FSB, the defendant agreed to organize and conduct sabotage on Russian territory.

Subsequently, the attacker, on the instructions of the curator, took a homemade explosive device from a pre-equipped cache in order to detonate it in the building of a humanitarian aid reception point for one of the volunteer organizations.

During the arrest, the defendant received injuries incompatible with life, since at that moment the IED he was carrying exploded. No security personnel or civilians were harmed.

The FSB published footage of the attempt to detain the attacker. In the recording, the security forces can be heard shouting a demand to raise their hands and throw the object in the suspect’s hands, after which an explosion is heard.

A laboratory for the production of explosives, components for them, as well as another ready-to-use IED were found at the attacker’s residence address. Correspondence with his curator and materials confirming the involvement of the RDK accomplice in terrorist activities coordinated by the Ukrainian special services were found on his phone.

The investigative department of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Samara region has opened a criminal case regarding preparations for a terrorist act.

On March 22, the FSB announced the prevention of an attempt to create a criminal group from among RDC supporters.

As the department stated then, seven detained Moscow residents maintained contacts with the RDK, operating as part of the Ukrainian armed forces against the Russian army, and discussed ways to carry out violent actions against law enforcement officials, military personnel and foreigners.

During searches of their homes, a machete, a tactical ax, eight knives, an aerosol pistol and pepper spray, flags with Nazi symbols, as well as communications equipment containing active correspondence with the leaders of the RDK were seized.

In addition, on March 14, the FSB reported the detention in St. Petersburg of four local residents who, on instructions from curators from the RDK and military intelligence of Ukraine, intended to poison food intended for shipment to the area of the North Military District and residents of new regions of Russia.

Along with this, the detainees carried out reconnaissance of life support facilities, transport and other critical infrastructure located in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region in order to subsequently prepare terrorist attacks.

As a result, criminal cases have been initiated and are being investigated based on the elements of crimes provided for in Part 2 of Art. 205.5 of the Criminal Code of Russia (“Participation in the activities of a terrorist organization”).
