The Security Council adopted a ceasefire resolution in Gaza on Monday (Reuters)

“I am always behind you”…a phrase said by Algeria’s representative to the UN Security Council, Ammar Benjamea. What is its story?

Yesterday, Monday, the UN Security Council adopted for the first time a resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, more than 5 months after the Israeli war. After the end of the session, the representative of Palestine, Riyad Mansour, went to hold a joint press conference with the rest of the delegates of the Arab group, including the representative of Algeria, Ammar Ben Jama. Mansour asked him to stand beside him at the front, and Bin Jama’ replied, “I am always behind you.”

Cameras captured the dialogue that took place between the delegates of Algeria and Palestine, and activists began circulating it widely in the Arab world, praising Badiha Ben Jama and the spirit that prevailed during the press conference.

Some bloggers described the situation that occurred between Ammar bin Jamea and Riyad Mansour as an honorable position that confirms the Arabs’ absolute support for the Palestinian cause, and their permanent support for those who have the right to defend themselves and their land.

Tweeters said that the words of the Palestinian delegate as he searched for his Algerian colleague were touching, and that Ben Jama’s response was eloquent and profound when he said: “I am behind you and at your back,” meaning that there is a true friend who protects your back in times of adversity.

Activists in the Arab world welcomed what Algeria did in the Security Council, leading to the adoption of Resolution 2728.

Although I do not see much benefit in what is happening in these corridors,

the Algerian delegate’s speech here indicates a strange quickness of mind, mind and drive that he has, and it also indicates the sincerity of the claim of permanent Algerian support for the Palestinian cause (which in any case is a victory less than expected), so he should not utter this phrase like this. The Security Council resolution calls for "an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during Ramadan that is respected by the parties and leads to a stable and sustainable ceasefire."

The text also calls for "the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, and to ensure humanitarian access," and calls on "both parties to comply with their obligations under international law regarding all detained persons."

The Algerian representative said during yesterday's Security Council session that the adoption of the resolution is a message to the people of the Gaza Strip that the international community feels their pain and has not abandoned them.

But how did the people of Gaza comment on the Security Council resolution?

Journalist Hassan Aslih said in his post on the A house for the Abu Hasira family in the vicinity of Al-Shifa Medical Complex, west of Gaza City.

Despite the Security Council’s decision to stop the war,

the Israeli occupation committed a massacre in Rafah at dawn today, Tuesday, after bombing a house for the Abu Nuqira family with dozens of displaced people inside, which led to the death of 20 displaced people, including children and women, and the injury of dozens pic.twitter.com/rROhIujKIm

Some bloggers wondered about the feasibility of adopting a ceasefire resolution in Gaza if it was not binding, as they described it, especially since “Israel does not recognize international resolutions, even if they are binding.”

Why do you make the decision to “support the ceasefire in Gaza” if it is not binding?

Even the Security Council's decision to immediately stop the war in Gaza is not binding, according to the American official spokesman!

In fact, Israel does not recognize international resolutions, even if they are binding!! https://t.co/WtnUqSbxGa

While other social media users welcomed the decision to immediately cease fire in Gaza, especially in the holy month, and one of them said: “We welcome the decision to cease fire in Gaza, which will help alleviate the tragic conditions of the Palestinian people.”

We welcome the ceasefire decision in Gaza, which will help alleviate the tragic conditions for the Palestinian people. Our Yemeni people remain in need of humanitarian attention from the Yemeni forces, the coalition, the neighborhood, and the international community. Suffering is one and humanity is one,

and our people deserve to end the suffering and would like to support the expected steps.

The occupation army has continued its war on Gaza since the seventh of last October, leaving tens of thousands of martyrs, wounded and missing, amid a catastrophic humanitarian situation and famine looming over the besieged Strip.
