Russia fired rockets at the Ukrainian capital Kiev again this morning. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, two ballistic missiles were shot down. According to consistent media reports, falling debris destroyed a residential building in the central Pechersky district.

According to Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko, two people were injured. US Ambassador Bridget A. Brink said via X that hypersonic missiles were used in the attack. She linked the report about the shelling with a political message: "Ukraine needs our support now."

According to eyewitnesses, at least five explosions were heard in Kiev around 10:30 a.m. in total. Journalists from the AFP news agency reported that there had been an air alert shortly beforehand. »Explosions in Kyiv. Go to shelters immediately,” wrote Mayor Klitschko in online services. Rescue workers are on the way to three city districts, he added.

Kiev had already been the target of Russian attacks last week. The electricity infrastructure was damaged. Several hundred thousand people were cut off from power.

Attacks on electricity supply in southern Ukraine

There were also attacks in southern Ukraine during the night. According to the military, Russian combat drones damaged power systems in the Odessa and Mykolaiv regions. As a result, the power went out in some parts of the port city of Odessa and its surrounding areas. According to the city administration, local public transport with trams and trolleybuses in Odessa had to be stopped. Nobody was injured.

In the Mykolaiv region, a substation was damaged and caught fire, said the energy supplier Ukrenerho. According to the military, debris from a drone also fell onto a two-story residential building there. It caught fire. Eleven people were injured, two of them seriously. Ukraine's energy supply has been Russia's priority goal for days.

Kiev is also apparently carrying out attacks on Russian energy facilities. In Russia, there was a fire on Monday night at the Novocherkassk power and thermal power plant, the largest plant of its kind in the Rostov region. According to the dpa news agency, unofficial information here indicates a Ukrainian drone attack. The Russian regional administration officially announced that the cause of the fire was being investigated. The fire had been extinguished. Two units of the power plant and two transmission lines were switched off.
