Trump: I would have responded to the Hamas attack on October 7 in the same way Israel responded (Reuters - Archive)

Former US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Israel is losing "a lot of support" because of its war in the Gaza Strip. He called on her to "get the job done" there.

Trump's statements, the Republican candidate to compete with President Joe Biden in the presidential elections scheduled for next November, coincided with Washington's abstention from voting in the UN Security Council on a resolution that called for an "immediate" ceasefire in Gaza.

Trump said, according to what was published by the newspaper "Israel Hayom", "You have to finish the war. You must end it. You must end it." He added that Israel "must be very careful because you are losing the support of a large part of the world. You are losing a lot of support. The war must end and the mission must be accomplished."

When asked how he would have responded to the attack by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) last October 7, Trump responded to the newspaper, “I would have responded in much the same way that Israel responded.”

But he expressed his concern about the impression or general image left by the war, in which Israeli strikes turned most of the Gaza Strip into rubble.

It is noteworthy that Trump often describes himself as a loyal ally of Israel, recalling his decision to move the American embassy to occupied Jerusalem and the role of his administration in the negotiations of the normalization agreements in 2020 between Israel and Arab countries such as the UAE and Bahrain.
