The British government has accused the

Chinese state

of carrying out

cyber attacks against parliamentarians critical of Beijing

and against the United Kingdom electoral commission, for which it has announced sanctions and summoned the Chinese ambassador in London.

"I can confirm that actors linked to the Chinese state are

responsible for two malicious cyber attacks

against our democratic institutions and our parliamentarians," British Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden told Parliament.

The politician notes that China's allies, such as the United States, plan to issue similar statements to "expose this activity and hold China accountable for continued patterns of hostile activity that target our democracies."
