From our special correspondent in Cayenne,

No time to waste for Emmanuel Macron. Barely off his plane, on the airport tarmac, the president sent his first message to the Guyanese: “

It is with great pleasure that I am here today, to look with lucidity at what is going to happen. and what's wrong

. »

But from his first mini-crowd after a ceremony on the Place des Palmistes, Emmanuel Macron came up against an unhappy Guyanese. “

I ask you what you came to do in Guyana

?

 », he called out. “

And what do you do for a living, sir?”

» asks the president. “

I am retired from the civil service.

 » “

You were undoubtedly happy to be in France

,” retorts the head of state. Answer: “

No.

 »

A little tension from the start, before another frank and direct exchange at the fish market. “

You talked about fleet renewal. We've been promised this for over ten years

 ."

tackles a Guyanese. “

So, I did not make any concrete promises on the renewal of the fleet, because we depended on Europe,”

replies Emmanuel Macron.

We were taken for a ride by the Commission.

The fishing industry had a well-known ambassador, Christiane Taubira, who joined the president. “

In the fishing industry, it is important that it understands the physical environment: what is this immense maritime expanse, how is it controlled…

”, argued the former minister of Justice, originally from Guyana.

Seeing and understanding is also what Emmanuel Macron tried to do on a farm in Matoury, where a breeder raised the problem of the regularization of migrants in sectors in tension, a system which is not applicable in Guyana. “

Will regularization in our sector be achieved through work

?

» Questions, expectations, the Guyanese have a lot.

They set up lookouts in the mouths, on the rivers, at crossroads on the road, to be able to identify and announce the different devices put in place.
