Donald Trump faces justice: reduced bail and confirmed trial date

Former American President Donald Trump, who aspires to become one again, faced two deadlines this Monday, March 25 in New York, in two different cases. He was entitled to two decisions, two new ones: one good and one less good.

The good news for Donald Trump is that his property – his movable and real estate assets – will not be seized on March 25. He just sent a message to his supporters to tell them that Trump Tower remains his property and that this is a huge victory. He had until today, the deadline, to present

a bond on the $454 million fine

to which he is sentenced in the case of the overvaluation of these same assets in civil proceedings.

His lawyers announced last week that he had not found any company to guarantee such a sum. Ultimately, the judge decided to lower the bail amount to $175 million. A much more accessible amount. Donald Trump also has ten additional days to post bail. He will succeed, because he has this liquidity, which was not necessarily the case with the fine to which he is still sentenced. He appealed this conviction. The decision is expected by September.

No postponement for Stormy Daniels trial

The other, less good news is that his criminal trial in the case of porn actress Stormy Daniels will not be postponed further. It will start on April 15. New documents had been received, but they do not justify a new postponement, according to the judge.

In this case, Donald Trump risks prison for having falsified the accounts of his companies in order to pay the actress to buy her silence about a sexual relationship that he continues to deny. Its strategy of postponement, possibly beyond the presidential election, is therefore apparently failing in this specific case.

“

I don’t understand how we can have a trial in the middle of an election. It’s unfair

,” said Donald Trump during a press conference in New York, regarding this Stormy Daniels affair. His lawyer, Mr. Todd Blanche, added to his client's comments. “

He shouldn't have to go to trial now because [prosecutors] chose to bring the case to court a year ago, not three years ago

 ,” he argues.

On the other hand, the postponement strategy seems to work well for his three other criminal trials, which still do not have a start date.
